RE: converter tv box ,witch one to buy?

I use the Zenith boxes from Circuit City too, they work great. I especially like the idea of using a splitter for the RF inputs to the TV AND the Zenith box, and use the audio and video outputs from the box to the TV. That way, I can choose the video source and use the Zenith box for free AIR signals, and use the RF cable input for CABLE when I'm at a location that has cable. All I have to do is select the Amplified antenna by pushing in the button next to the RV antenna connection to get free AIR TV, OR leave it out for CABLE if connected. The Digital channels are GREAT. NICE!!

RE: Electric Steps

Thanks for your input. No luck yet, so I'm taking it into the shop tomorrow. I think there is a relay connected to the ignition switch that might be bad. I remember it was intermittent before, and when I jiggled the ignition switch the steps came out. I'll let you know what they find.

Transmission Fluid Temperature (Scan Gauge)

I finally programmed my ScanGauge to measure Transmission Fluid Temperature. What range should it be in. I drove the unit for 30 miles in mixed traffic when it was 90 degrees outside and near the end of the trip it was showing 195 degrees. I assume that is normal???

Electric Steps

ALl,
Does any body know where they hide the fuze for the coach electric steps. Mine have gone south and will no longer extend. Unit is a Jayco Greyhawk 26SS. I found 4 fuzes wrapped up in a wire bundle under the dash near the emergency brake release, but they were all good (one could be it but can't tell).

RE: Digital TV Convertor

Got the new DTV Box as advertised. WORKS GREAT! I now get 26 crystal clear digital channels in Conshohocken using my standard AIR crank-up antenna (batwing) with its built in amplifier. Both picture and sound are EXCELLENT on all channels. FINALLY, something the Government did that WORKS! HA! Hooked it up using the video/audio outputs. That way I can just turn off the antenna amp when I'm hooked up to standard cable in some campgrounds, or use "Air" signals by just choosing the input type on the TV remote. The picture now "pops out" on my 20" LCD TV. NICE!!!

RE: Water Problem

Do you have the water "Utility Center" in back? If so, it could be that one or more of the valve switches are in the wrong position. If they are in the "Mid-Way" position, nothing works right. Don't just trust the handle positions either, if they turn VERY easy, they are probably BAD and not switching to the correct settings. It took me 2 years to figure this one out and I had two valves (out of 6) that were bad in my Jayco 26SS. The entire panel comes out but the valves are riveted in. The dealer wanted $200 plus any additional labor to fix it. It's a bummer to change these valves but I did mine in about 4 hours. You can buy the individual valves from your Jayco dealer for about $8.00 each. My new valves are physically the same size as the old ones but are much better constructed. If the brass top of your old valves comes off with the handle, you can put them in the right position with a screwdriver. Email me and I'll send you the pictures of the repair. Good luck.

RE: Jayco Granite Ridge

You have the same setup as I. The "Cable" will NOT work if the TV antenna amplifier is in the "ON" position. The switch is located near the front TV where the cable comes in and is usually near the 115 volt receptacle. It is where you plug your cable in. You should see a little red button next to the cable feed. When the button is "IN" the roof antenna and amplifier is ON and the cable line is disconnected. When the button is "OUT" the antenna and amplified is DISCONNECTED and the cable line is connected to the TV. I know this sounds silly but it took me a couple of tries to figure this out. I was always blaming the cable for being broke, when I only had the "button" in the wrong position. By the way, the automatic switch that shuts off your TV when the ignition is started is also in this cable outlet behind the cover, if your interested.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Added two beveled mirrors behind the stove area. Used plastic screw in mirror clips and small dabs of tub and tile sealant on the back of the mirrors for extra cushioning. Love the new look!

Credit Where Credit is Due!

I know we've all complained about RV Dealers and product manufacturers that never respond to our complaints. Well, I have a different story for you. I've complained on this Forum about my ever "Yellowing" white Velvac mirrors on my RV. They started to "Yellow" after my first trip to Florida, and have gotten worse over time to where you can't even clean them properly. Anyway, I was on the Velvac website trying to see how much replacement heads would be. It turns out it would cost over $200 per head. OUCH. So, they had a "Customer service" email link and I asked if I could take the mirrors apart and "paint" the mirrors with the new spray paint made for plastic, and asked for instructions on how to disassemble them.
Well, to my surprise, I got an email the next day from customer support asking me to contact them. When I called them, they asked for the date of manufacture on the bottom of the mirrors. Mine were manufactured in September 2004. It seems that during that time they had one manufacturing lot that got out WITHOUT the UV coating on them and mine where part of that lot. To make a long story short, yesterday I received two new beautifully white mirror heads at NO COST to me. Now THAT'S customer service.

RE: Jayco Question again!

Go into "Setup" on the DVD player remote with the TV on and there will be an "Audio" setup where you can select the type of output you want. This will select 2 or 4 speakers depending on your choice of type of sound.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

I winterized it with RV antifreeze (sob, sob!!) and put a 1" elastomeric foam pad on the queen size fold out bed. The foam pad works real great in that it not only makes the bed much more comfortable, but also makes the sofa a little firmer and more supportive when the bed is folded up into the sofa configuration. I don't think the "J-Steel sofa" will take much more than a 1" topper. Mine was very tight re-folding it into the sofa. Anyway, I had fun!

Inside Wall Mirror

Has anybody tried to mount a full length wall mirror inside the "House" of your RV. I can easily mount them on any door. I'm talking about mounting directly to the wall, perhaps the wall that shows after the slideout is out. Do you mount it directly with mirror clips or glue it, or perhaps use Velcro?? Just wondering. I would also like to put mirrors on the walls in back and side of the stove. What do you think?

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

I washed the Roof in an attempt to lessen the black streaks, Put in new Floor mats in the Ford Cab, and repaired a sagging bed over the cab where it lays over the opening to the cab. I used a 1" angle iron 4 feet long and unzipped the bed cover, repaired the wood angle, and attached the angle iron on the corner with 1 1/2 inch screws into the wood. The bed is not only straight, it can easily support my 300 lbs. Ha! It my "hobby" to take care of the RV.

Winnebago Vista 32K

I am seriously thinking about trading in my Class C Jayco Greyhawk 26SS for a Class A Winnebago Vista 32K. Does anyone have any experience with this model/Type. I love the bunkbed floor plan in this model and I think Winnebago has built a winner in this model. Any comments on the Winnebago brand or the switch from Class C to Class A would also be appreciated. It's on a 2007 Ford F-53 Chassis which I already know has some unusual "quirks", but nothing that can't be tolerated. The plus is the new Ford V-10 with the higher horsepower than my 2005. Again I would appreciate any advice. My 2005 is wort from 40-45K on trade and I was quote a price of $73,535. What do you think?

RE: Another Great Outing - Niagara Falls

As of October 1st, 2007, you only need a passport to FLY into canada. Until next October, you only need a picture ID such as your driver's license, to drive in or out (we brought state issued birth certificates just in case). After that, you will need a passport, unless they come up with something else. We (my wife and I) had no problem driving the RV to and from Canada. It's a lot easier at the American bridge (about 30 minutes), and very crowded at the Lewistown bridge (a little more than an hour). The view from the Canadian side is worth the wait. Hope this helps.

Another Great Outing - Niagara Falls

I just got back from another great RV outing with my Jayco Class C 26SS. This trip was to Niagara Falls with a tour to Lakes Ontario and Erie (campgrounds right on the Lake shores). One night it was hot and we had to use the AC, and the next night was cold and we had to use the Heat. In any case, EVERYTHING worked GREAT! The view of the Falls from the Canadian side was fantastic and the KOA in Niagara Falls, Canada was perfect. We also stopped at Lake Ontario at a small but beautiful campground on the lakeside called "Daisy Barn" (cost only $25). We then went to Erie, Pa., to another strange but beautiful campground called "Sara Coyne". It was split between the Lakeshore and a Bay, and we stayed right on the beach on the lakeshore. The campground was a little strange because they allow tent camping right on the beach and the Lakeshore sites are not clearly defined. Since the place was practically empty, we had our pick of the premium site (cost only $25). And finally, on the way home to Conshohocken, Pa., we stopped at Bedford, PA., at a campground called "Friendship Village". By far, this was the most beautiful campground I have ever seen with wide open sites, several fishing lakes, mini-golf, cable TV, and Wi-Fi (All for $33). So, we all had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed Canada and western NY.

P.S. The leaves are just beginning to change and the colors are beautiful. Get out and ENJOY!

RE: Well, we got off the roller coaster and bought something...

I suggest you just take it out a few times and enjoy it before you do any modifications. After reading this forum I thought for sure I would need all those "driveability" mods like new shocks and sway bars, etc. I now have 11000 miles of great handling and the only thing I did was get the front end aligned. You'll find that the more you drive it and get accustomed to it's "quirks", the more you'll LOVE driving it. CONGRATS and ENJOY!
